Are you a fall-sport athlete, meaning do you participate in football, volleyball, soccer, and other fall sports? If so, it’s important to take good care of your smile while you go to practice and games. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Sajjad Ashnagar, has some tips for you.
The first tip is to wear a mouthguard. Mouthguards are strong appliances that can protect your smile when hard, forceful objects hit it, like a helmet, elbow, knee, and ball. Wearing this guard can help you prevent chipped, broken, and even knocked-out teeth as well as damaged oral tissues. When it comes to your mouthguard options, you can use a stock mouthguard, boil-and-bite mouthguard, and custom-made mouthguard.
The second tip is to avoid sports drinks. Sports drinks are loaded with sugar. Even though they seem like they might help you recover from working out, they attack the teeth and promote tooth decay. It’s best to stick to drinking water.
