Is Invisalign® a Good Smile Alignment Option for You?

At Lake Highlands Dental in Dallas Texas, our dentists, Dr. Lyndel Stripling and Dr. Shawn Nemovi, offer Invisalign® treatment for our patients seeking to align their smiles. This cosmetic dentistry specialty is a smile alignment system which straightens teeth by using clear custom retainers (aligners) worn over the teeth to gradually shift them into place.

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are removable, allowing you to eat, drink, and clean your smile just as you normally do. These aligners are also kinder to gum tissue, unlike the chafing which can be experienced by metal brackets and wires. Our patients also enjoy the nearly invisible process of straightening their smile with this system, even though they completely cover the teeth to do their work.

Once our dentist determines whether Invisalign is right for your smile, we will begin by taking x-rays and photos of your mouth and create impressions. Using your impressions, Invisalign will construct a 3D image of your bite and mouth and our dentist will create your treatment plan to determine how long you should be wearing each retainer as they move your teeth.

Once your aligners are custom-crafted, you will wear them 20-22 hours a day, every day, for the duration of the treatment. The average treatment time to straighten your smile ranges from 9 to 15 months. You will basically only remove your aligners to eat or clean your smile.

As the aligners shift your teeth, you will switch to a new set every one to two weeks. Each tray is progressively straighter than the one before. Every six to ten weeks you will meet with your dentist to ensure that your smile is aligning correctly. This gentle evolution gradually shifts your pearly whites until they reach the straightened smile planned during the initial 3D process.
